PhotographyWhy does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
Anida | I'm unique in that my artistic abilities extend beyond just photography. Since pre-school, I had been known as the "Class Artist" for my work in fine arts and have won numerous awards in my hometown and region of New York. I also graduated first in my class with an AS in Fine Art/Design at Corning Community and continued to pursue my BS in Advertising, Marketing and Communications in NYC where I further developed my creative abilities in videography and print. My approach to photography derives from a blend of my unique experiences and I feel that for my abilities, experience, and services I'm also very affordable compared to higher end photographers that throw in extras to hike up the price. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
Anida | I think everyone thinks they can be a photographer these days because they have a camera and can add a filter effect over their images, but if I were a customer I'd want to be more insightful for these little details and understand the difference between quality work as opposed to average. Little things like, keeping an eye out for excessive use of vignetting and over saturation of colors. DO pay attention to a photographer that makes use of good composition and edits in such a way that enhances the image, not distract. Good editing is editing that you don't really notice. One of my favorite quotes sums it up like this, "Photography is not about cameras, gadgets and gismos. Photography is about photographers. A camera didn't make a great picture anymore than a typewriter wrote a great novel." ~Peter Adams What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?
Anida | I wish customers were more savvy about quality and pricing. They certainly go hand in hand with each other. That old saying "You get what you pay for" really applies in this profession and too many people are willing to skimp on investing in a decent photographer. What some people don't seem to realize is that these photos will be immortalized beyond your most vivid memories. You'll always be able to look back on these and show your grandchildren so it's important that they look the absolute best they can be. And sometimes, even if your wedding isn't so grand and small (like mine was), a photographer can make it appear much more spectacular and fabulous than it really was which I personally don't mind! |
VideographyWhy does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
Sammy | Video is more than just images on a screen. It tells a moving story the way photography alone can't. A lot of other videographers just point, shoot, and lay down the video they have. That's boring. I on the other hand listen to your wants and needs, and have tested experience in arranging a video to the client's liking from previous experience editing commercials for big names like Fox Sports, Comcast and American Greetings. I also like to think that I am able to keep improving and stay up to date with the latest editing techniques so that I'm always able to produce the best possible results at any given time. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
Sammy | It's easy for someone to grab a video camcorder and call themselves a video editor. Some people think it's as easy as standing around, hitting record, and then dropping clips into a preset template and often, it's very corny and it shows. If there's anything I'd want to share with customers about the trade, it's that there's a difference between your average Joe with a camera and someone that comes from a background of film experience. I know that sounds like common sense, but a lot of people are willing to forgo paying the extra for the guy with more experience because they think that it's an easy job. Ask your videographer about their background in film and editing. It makes a big difference. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?
Sammy | It takes a lot more time and skill than people think to edit a video. First, a videographer has to film the event which could take several hours and depending on who you choose to shoot the event - it will have a different look based off the videographer's creative direction and style. Afterwards, when moving all the footage to post production, all that footage has to be watched and broken down to the best footage which could then take up to another day. Then when that's all complete, the best footage has to be laid out into the final clip and the editing process can actually begin. Once everything has finally been completed, details with audio, VFX, and color has to be edited and rendered for final approval. Editing takes a lot more time and precision than people think. Anyone can own a video camera and some editing software, but that doesn't mean they can make a visually appealing video for a customer. |
